| Head's farewell to school after
20 years |
A GOSPEL Oak headteacher has closed her register for the last
time after 20 years in the job.
Television traveller Michael Palin, former council leader Councillor
Dame Jane Roberts, new leader Councillor Raj Chada and Councillor
John Mills were among those who said farewell to Dalu Chowdhury
at a packed leaving party at Carlton Primary School in Grafton Road
on Tuesday. Ms Chowdhury, 60, said of her time at the school: I
have learnt resilience, good humour, the ability to resolve conflict
without resorting to any form of aggression and the ability to say
sorry without any inhibition.
She described the pupils as the most wonderful gift Carlton
has given me, adding: Its the child who says Im
not shy any more or I can speak English now. What
can be more exciting than that?
Mr Palin, a patron of the school, said: The children here
have a great spirit, and a lot of thats from Dalu. She involves
herself in every aspect of the school and the children. She has
been utterly committed.
Miss Chowdhury plans to spend the next three months visiting family
and friends in India. On her return she hopes to take up a teaching
consultancy post at Camden schools.
Jacqi Phelan, deputy head for seven years, will take over as headteacher.
