A GOOD WOMAN
A beautiful, breezy adaptation of Oscar Wildes Lady Windermeres
Fan starring Helen Hunt as the gold-digging Mrs Erlynne. Terrific
set design and wonderful performances from a stellar cast featuring
Scarlett Johannson and Tom Wilkinson transforms this effort by
director Mike Berker (To Kill A King) into a tasteful romp.
THE JACKET
Adrien Brody and Kiera Knightly star in a vivid time-travelling
psychological thriller. Directed by John Maybury, this time-jumping
spectacular about a man who can foresee his own death includes
a hideous twist concerning a mental institution and a straitjacket
(hence the title). Kelly Lynch, Kris Kristofferson and Daniel
Craig co-star with music by Brian Eno.
THE LAST HORROR MOVIE
A small-budgeted British thriller focuses on a serial killers
video diary which was, it seems, inadvertently recorded over a
video rental. Very creepy and credible if a little smug around
the edges.
THE BRIDESMAID
Based on a Ruth Rendell novel, director Claude Chabrol orchestrates
a slowly-unfolding tale of adolescent yearning and romantic danger
when a young man falls for his sisters seductive and mysterious
bridesmaid.
PRIVATE
A family of Palestinians on the west bank are occupied by
a group of tough youth Israeli soldiers. Both the family, lead
by a proud father, and the troops are humanly drawn, making this
a tense and believable drama.
