Playwright Alan Bennett

THE Roundhouse in Chalk Farm is set for a £50,000 windfall
on Sunday from a fundraising evening in a West End theatre, where
playwright Alan Bennett will talk about his work with television
traveller Michael Palin.
Mr Bennett, who lives in Gloucester Crescent, Camden Town, and
Mr Palin, from Oak Village in Gospel Oak, are appearing at the
Prince of Wales Theatre in Coventry Street.
Cash raised will go towards the refurbishment of the cavernous
arts venue in Chalk Farm Road.
With just over 50 seats remaining to be sold at the 1,150-theatre,
the Roundhouse trust is in line for a further boost to a fundraising
push that has already raised £25 million.
Ex-Monty Python star Mr Palin told the New Journal he was looking
forward to presenting Mr Bennett to his many admirers.
He said: I am a terrific fan of his. He is a unique writer
always subtle, charming and above all funny. There are
no other writers about who work on so many levels and he
is great company.
Although he is shy, he is good on stage and always entertains.
I am looking forward to it.
Mr Bennetts play The History Boys is currently enjoying
a run at the National Theatre. Fans will be able to question him
about his work.
The Roundhouse, originally a Victorian train shed, is now in the
middle of a £28 million revamp which will include an arts
centre.
