Kebba family in canal vigil

Kebba Jobe

FRIENDS and relatives of a man who died as he was arrested by police on a canal towpath are to return to Camden Lock on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of his death.
Gambian-born Kebba Jobe, 42, died on May 15 last year shortly after being stopped by plainclothes police in Camden Town. A plastic bag was later found lodged in Mr Jobe’s throat.
One year on, Mr Jobe’s wife Jackie will join grieving friends at the canal at 2pm on Sunday.
Mr Jobe’s tragic death led to protests in the streets of Camden Town and outside a police station. The Crown Prosecution Service still has the case under review but an inquest at St Pancras Coroner’s Court has already cleared officers involved of any wrong-doing.
Jackie Jobe and Mr Jobe’s friends are still considering their options over possible legal proceedings.
One close friend said: “We still want answers about what happened. When you think about what was said at the inquest, you think of more questions that you want answers to. We still want justice for Kebba.”
Also on Sunday, a speaker from the Justice For Kebba ‘Dobbo’ Jobe Campaign is due to address a Cannabis Education rally in Trafalgar Square at 4.30pm.
Speeches will follow a march by cannabis education protesters from Russell Square to Trafalgar Square at 3pm.
