King’s X plans under fire

REVISED proposals for a greener King’s Cross were slammed as “completely inadequate” by the Camden Green Party this week.
Developers Argent submitted their proposals for the £2 billion King’s Cross development to Camden and Islington councils at the end of September.
According to developers, the revised plans answered criticisms of the original proposals – submitted last year – by providing more landscaping, more affordable housing and the use of renewable energy.
But Camden Green Party Chairman Adrian Oliver said that developers had displayed a lack of vision – and had missed a unique opportunity to create a flagship green project.
He said: “Despite the new wind turbines and solar schemes, there is a lack of vision within the plans for energy provision. These technologies are proven and do not need to be showcased by any more pilot schemes.
“We are demanding that a target of at least 50 per cent local renewable energy generation should be adopted by the developers and a 100 per cent target is not unreasonable.”
Argent chief executive Roger Madelin, said: “He’s entitled to his opinion. We think he’s wrong in most areas and he doesn’t fully understand the wider implications of the green agenda.”
A six-week public consultation which began on October 10 ended last week. Planning chiefs are expected to make a decision on the revised proposals next year.
