Cops hunt hit and run drivers

11-year-old boy killed; man seriously hurt

POLICE are hunting a hit-and-run driver who killed an 11-year-old West Hampstead schoolboy as he walked to do his homework on Friday.
Liam Hannon, of Hampstead School in Westbere Road, was pronounced dead at the Royal Free Hospital soon after being run over outside his Cricklewood home.
His father, Peter was quoted in The People newspaper as saying: “His mum saw the ambulance arrive. When she spotted his little legs poking out she knew it was him.
“We are devastated. He was the best boy in the world.”
Hampstead headteacher Andy Knowles led the tributes to Liam.
He said: “We are all devastated by Liam’s death. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this very sad time for them. We are doing our best to console his friends and his classmates, who are all busy making tributes to him. He is missed by us all.”
Police are hunting the driver of a silver car believed to be involved.
Speaking on Saturday Sergeant Malcolm Cumberlidge said: “At about 7.45pm last night a small car travelling west on Cricklewood Lane was in collision with a boy.
“The vehicle did not stop and drove on along the road. Liam had left his home and was walking towards an internet café across the road to do his homework.
“We urgently need to trace anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has information on the car involved.
“The vehicle is likely to have suffered some frontal damage.”
The appeal came as detectives asked for help in the hunt for a second hit-and-run driver who left a pedestrian for dead outside Euston Station.
The 52-year-old father and husband from Berkshire was knocked down as he crossed Euston Road on October 26.
He remains in a critical condition at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel.
Officers recovered a wing mirror from the car which hit him, believed to be a blue M-reg Vauxhall Astra GSI. Witnesses say the driver slowed momentarily after hitting the man but then sped off.
Police are carrying out forensic checks on the wing mirror and reviewing CCTV footage.
