It all comes down to cash

AFTER confessing to not being able to swim the other week, I was deluged with offers of help.

Most came from Gooners but I’m not sure their intentions were completely honourable so I’m going to put myself in the hands of the professionals.
I figured I’d better do it soon, while we still have pools to do it in. Hopefully, it won’t come to that in Kentish Town. Nor at Archway, given redevelopment proposals mooted there.
And we’d all like to think it definitely won’t if enough people rock the boat. But I remember hundreds linking arms and enveloping Swiss Cottage library, leisure centre, market and football pitch a few years ago. The Town Hall still went ahead with flats on the site.
Yet Highbury residents proved last week that people power can work. Their complaints kicked into touch an Islington council plan to let Arsenal manage and charge for the use of free pitches in Highbury Fields.

• FOOTBALL fans paid as much as £5 and as little as £1 to watch Arsenal and Sunderland play on Tuesday night.
The Stadium of Light was rammed even though the 47,000 fans knew they would probably see largely second-string players.
The average attendance there this season has been around 34,000. Which surely ends the debate; people aren’t fed up with watching the beautiful game, just being milked £40 and upwards for the privilege.
