TERROR OF GANG WARS
POLICE and Town Hall officials have come under fire for not doing enough to stem an outbreak of gang violence that has seen terrified residents stay in doors as gangs of youths attack each other with baseball bats and table legs.
A shocking dossier compiled by Ian Walker, the senior council official in charge of cracking down on anti-social behaviour – leaked to the New Journal – reveals that rival gangs from Camden and Islington schools have fought pitched battles on the Ampthill Square Estate in Somers Town. Residents speaking to the New Journal last night (Wednesday) told how on Friday they were too frightened to leave their homes as 40 youths armed with baseball bats and table legs fought a pitched battle. Many called for more protection.

ACADEMY ‘ILLEGAL’
Construction of a controversial new City Academy could face lengthy delays amid dramatic new allegations that the plans were “illegal”.
In a landmark case, a law firm acting for two residents living near the site in Liverpool Road, Holloway, has lodged papers with the High Court. This has put wheels in motion for a judicial review.
Residents Mrs Rani Bibi, from Liverpool Road, and Terry Powers from Crossley Street, launched the action, arguing the academy – on the site of St Mary Magdalene primary school – was in direct contravention of Islington Council’s planning laws.

WARDEN IN STAB DRAMA
A TRAFFIC warden on his rounds escaped death or serious injury yesterday morning (Thursday) when he parried a knife aimed for his chest.
The 40-year-old Westminster Council parking attendant, employed by contractors NCP, was working in the Ladbrook Grove area when two motorcyclists drove up and began to verbally abuse him.
One then came towards him with a knife and aimed to stab him in the chest. The 40-year-old parking warden raised his hands to defend himself and the knife went straight through the palm of his left hand.
But marquee hire company, De Bou, has told organisers Master Events and the Egyptian Association UK that the tent housing the celebrations will be taken back if they do not pay their outstanding bill.
