A RATTLE OF TINS ON THE HEATH
CASH-STRAPPED bosses at the Corporation of London are issuing Heath staff with collecting tins to raise money to maintain the 900-acre site.
A report to the Corporation’s Open Spaces committee which met on Friday at the Guildhall said the Corporation’s open spaces – including the Heath, a registered charity since 1997 –needed to start actively raising cash to boost funds.
Heath bosses will be now be given a “tool kit” including advice on how to publicise its charity status, a list of organisations to approach for money – and collecting tins.
Suggested moves included representatives of the Heath setting up a Trust and electing trustees separate from the Heath management committee.
According to Ms Adams in the report: “This should distance the site from the perception that the Corporation is a wealthy organisation.”

LEADER'S ‘CARIBBEAN CONSPIRACY’
ISLINGTON council leader Steve Hitchins made repeated phone calls to the Caribbean contacting the woman he wanted as the borough’s new Chief Executive, it was claimed at a misconduct hearing this week.
Within seconds of making the calls to Montserrat, Cllr Hitchins was on the line with fellow Lib Dem Margot Dunn, allegedly conspiring over the appointment of Helen Bailey.
Cllr Hitchins told the Adjudication Panel for England his recollection of events was “clouded by the passage of time”.
Five councillors and chief executive Ms Bailey are fighting for their professional reputations – and the councillors face being barred from office for up to five years.

THREAT TO RAMADAN FESTIVAL
A LAST-minute deal saved a major Islamic celebration in Marble Arch last night (Thursday) – enabling film crews from around the world to cover a visit by the Archbishop of Canterbury which was hours away from cancellation.
Dr Rowan Williams was visiting the Ramadan Marquee but today (Friday) it faces closure unless organisers can stump up the £46,000 it owes to its marquee supplier.
Westminster’s first official Ramadan Marquee only opened last Wednesday and is supposed to run for another three weeks.
But marquee hire company, De Bou, has told organisers Master Events and the Egyptian Association UK that the tent housing the celebrations will be taken back if they do not pay their outstanding bill.
