| Bosss £46,000 costs
over fly-posting ban |
Town Hall welcomes bill for Asbo-hit
advertising MD
ADVERTISING chief Tim Horrox has been ordered to pay court costs
for a case in which he was banned from commissioning fly-posting
campaigns in Camden.
District Judge James Henderson ruled at Highbury Corner Magistrates
Court on Tuesday that Mr Horrox, managing director of maverick firm
Diabolical Liberties, must pay £46,000 in costs.
The judgment follows a high-profile case in March in which Mr Horrox
was served with an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Asbo).
He was told he faced arrest and even a jail term if his company
carried on using messy posters.
Camden Council claimed Diabolical Liberties, thought to have a £10
million turnover, was one of the biggest users of fly-posters.
Labour environment boss Councillor John Thane said: We are
delighted by the judges decision to award court costs.
This vindicates Camden Councils decision to seek Asbos against
company executives who arrange fly-posting, and the time and effort
the council put in to achieve a positive outcome.
He added: Before we used Asbos, it cost our taxpayers £250,000
a year to clean up fly-posting and prosecute offenders. Now fly-posting
has reduced by 95 per cent in the borough.
We have recouped our costs from this court case and reduced
the taxpayers bill to virtually nil.
Tim Horrox had made no comment at the time of going to press yesterday
(Wednesday). |
