| No late hours for celeb pub |
A PUB popular with celebrities including Chris Evans and Noel
Gallagher (pictured) had its application for extended hours turned
down by licensing chiefs yesterday (Wednesday).
The Haverstock Arms, in Haverstock Hill, Belsize Park, which currently
shuts at 11pm from Monday to Saturday and at 10.30pm on Sundays
wanted to extend its opening hours to 2.30am every day.
But the application was rejected after residents who live near the
pub complained that the new hours would increase problems with noise
in a residential area.
Instead, councillors allowed a reduced extension which will allow
the pub to stay open until midnight on Friday and Saturday and until
11.30 pm from Monday to Thursday.
Edward Munro Waterston, from Antrim Grove, Belsize Park, one of
ten residents who wrote to the Town Hall objecting to the plans,
said he was happy with the councils decision.
Mr Munro Waterston, whose flat is directly opposite the pub, said:
I am pleased with what they came up with. I think the pub
is very well managed but we had real concerns that there would be
more noise, especially during the summer months.
Pub landlord Andrew Carey, who appeared as Chris Evans sidekick
during the hit show TFI Friday, was unavailable for comment at the
time of going to press.
But a spokesman said that bosses were likely to appeal the decision. |
