Students make top five

BRAINY students at a Hampstead private school were among the top five pupils in the country in GCSE language exams.

The three girls at St Margaret’s School in Kidderpore Avenue each received a special letter of merit after beating thousands of other students in French, Russian and Spanish exams.
All 14 GCSE students at the 145-pupil girls’ school achieved at least five A* to C grades, making it St Margaret’s best-ever results.
Headteacher Suzanne Meaden said: “Our success is down to the small classes and excellent teachers. It’s as simple as that.”
Other independent schools in the borough also performed well, with many reporting best-ever exam performances.
At North Bridge House Senior School in Primrose Hill, all 33 pupils who took GCSE exams achieved at least five or more A* to C grades.
The small independent day school in Gloucester Avenue is attended by just over 150 boys and girls aged 11 to 16.
Headteacher Alexandra Ayre said: “The results have been getting better every year and this year was our best ever.
“It’s down to the strong commitment from staff and pupils.”
One of the oldest schools in the borough, The Royal School in Rosslyn Hill, Hampstead, had a 94 per cent pass rate.
The private girls’ school, which was founded in 1855, has Princess Alexandra as its patron.
