| Clothes maketh the actor, says
Callow in room with a view |
ACTOR Simon Callow gave a speech commemorating the life of the
celebrated theatrical agent, Peggy Ramsey at Hampstead Theatre on
Thursday.
Ramsey was the agent for Joe Orton whose play, What the Butler Saw,
is proving a popular revival at the Hampstead Theatre. Mr Callow,
who took charge of Ramseys estate after her death, has donated
Ramseys extensive wardrobe to the Central School of Speech
and Drama in Swiss Cottage.
And on Thursday, Hampstead Theatre held a private view of the clothes
in the Michael Frayn Room.
Mr Callow said the donation was what Peggy would have wanted. Peggy
decided that her vast estate should be used to support actors. It
gives me great pleasure to think of drama students ripping her clothes
of each other he said.
Central Schools archivist, Jenny Hayton, said the clothes
were an invaluable resource. She said: The archive is an invaluable
resource. It will be used for staff and student research. We are
currently researching, cataloguing and storing the collection to
preserve this resource for future students use.
