Every dog has his day – but are Spurs barking up the wrong tree?

IT is not uncommon for Spurs fans to start the season brimful of optimism.
But it’s not just the White Hart Lane faithful who are getting their jockstraps in a twist over Tottenham this term.

Pundits, players and even miserablist Alan Hansen have all tipped the Martin Jol revolution to come good this year. Which is more than you can say about Arsenal after Olympic standard tumble tot Didier Drogba had their defence dashing around the box like gormless extras from a Benny Hill summer special on Sunday.
Still, what did we expect from a side who ditched their best midfielder and brought in a man whose name Gooners can’t even pronounce without covering the rest of us in spittle.
Sending Philippe Senderos to Pascal Cygan’s soccer school for clowns this summer wasn’t the brightest of ideas either.
Okay, I made that up but you get what I mean.
Every dog has its day and this season it’s Spurs’ turn. So, step aside you French poodles, the pitbull is ready to make his mark.

TOFFS will tell you to stay glued to the Ashes. D’uh. Forget that.
Football is back and every normal person should be counting down the final few seconds to the new season.
Let’s not pretend we weren’t sad to see captain Patrick Vieira leave Highbury this summer. It’s just a shame he didn’t stick around to try on our flash new redcurrant and gold strip.
But don’t panic. Manchester Red and White Sox may have sold Phil Neville but are still the Premiership’s ugliest XI – a title they paid extra wages to Rio Ferdinand to ensure they didn’t lose.
All Chelsea have is lots of money and a long-ball game that John Fashanu would be proud of.
You can buy 60 players Roman, but only 11 of them can play – and none of them are as good as Thierry. That just leaves Spurs and creaking new signing Edgar Davids.
The ageing Edgar will run about for a bit, kick Cesc Fabregas up in the air during the north London derby, lose the north London derby and then get injured for most of the season.
All worth his extortionate wages, I’m sure.
