RIPPER'S PLEA TO BE FORGIVEN
Serial killer’s jail letters claim remorse for slayings

EXCLUSIVE By RICHARD OSLEY

SHOCKING secrets of the prison life of serial killer Anthony Hardy are revealed for the first time today (Thursday) by the New Journal.
Hand-written letters penned by Hardy from his cell show how he is searching for redemption and forgiveness in religion for his grisly murder spree.
They were sent to friend and researcher Sarah McGuinness, who gave evidence to an inquiry currently probing the mental health care received by Hardy – an investigation now just weeks away from publishing its final report.
But Hardy’s new-found religious conviction may jar with the grieving families of his three known victims and the killer’s former neighbours on the College Place Estate in Camden Town. Several relatives have long called for a public inquiry into the highly disturbing case.
Hardy, 55, is serving life after murdering three women at his council flat in Camden Town. The bodies of two of his victims were photographed in devil’s masks before they were mutilated with a hacksaw and dumped in bins close to the murderer’s home in December 2002.

Free losing £100k a day
THE ROYAL Free is losing £100,000 per day – forcing the Hampstead hospital to cut 100 beds and 20 junior doctors posts in a bid to stop a £10.2m debt from spiralling out of control.
Now staff are demanding an inquiry into how the debts have manage to pile up so much that patient care is under threat and jobs could be lost.
One senior nurse, who did not want the New Journal to reveal her name, said yesterday that mis-management was to blame for the troubles. She said: “They have been aware of these problems for three years and have been in talks with the Primary Care Trust and the Strategic Health Authority – but no one body has come up with a solution.
“We run a good hospital – and now that is under threat because of these vicious cuts. There must be an enquiry into how the debt has built up.”
