| Gun attack victim faces life
of agony |
Clubber jailed for shooting
A BUNGLING gunman who shot himself in both legs when he
opened fire on a nightclub doorman has begun a 12-year jail sentence.
His victim, Felix Doyley, whose address in the Old Street area was
withheld for security reasons, now faces years of pain as a result
of his injuries.
Old Bailey judge Anthony Morris told the gunman, Dwayne Eversley,
21, on Monday: You are not particularly experienced in handling
firearms.
Eversley was armed with a .38 revolver when he tried to storm a
Docklands club after being thrown out with a group of rowdy drinkers,
the court heard.
Prosecutor Duncan Penny said the revolver got stuck as he drew it
from his pocket.
A bullet went through his right thigh and into the left.
But despite his injuries, Eversley fired at Mr Doyley, hitting him
on the ankle and shattering his shin bone. The doorman collapsed
as his attacker hobbled to a waiting car.
Eversley, of Stoke Newington, left a trail of blood and was soon
arrested.
He was convicted of wounding the doorman, a 33-year-old father-of-three,
and of firearms charges.
Judge Morris said the 4am shooting on October 10 last year at the
Waterfront club in Canary Wharf was a premeditated revenge
attack.
Mr Doyley spent four weeks in hospital and had four operations.
He still uses crutches and is unable to work.
The judge said that only long sentences would deter gun crime.
Eversleys group had bombarded the glass-fronted club with
tables and chairs after being ordered to leave.
He collected the revolver from a parked car and returned to confront
Mr Doyley and began shooting from close range. |
