Murder hunt as drug dealer’s mutilated corpse discovered

Police divers continue to search for rest of crack dealer’s body in canal

THE gory remains of a Marylebone crack-dealer were pulled from the Regent’s Canal on Friday night.

Murder squad detectives say they want to catch the killers of Marvin Gentles, 28, quickly, before they strike again.
His torso was found in a binbag inside a floral ‘granny-bag’-style shopping trolley by a member of the public walking along the towpath.
Other towpath users say they spotted the bag dumped in the canal near London Zoo at least a day earlier. Police divers continued to search for the rest of Mr Gentles’ body in the canal this week.
Also known by the street name Face, he was identified by DNA from his torso on Tuesday. Last year he was stopped by police who took DNA samples from him after he was involved in a minor road accident.
A post mortem showed he died of at least a dozen stab wounds. His head and arms had been severed and his lower body cut off at the navel.
His family, who he lived with in Northolt, Middlesex, have declined to comment but have told police Mr Gentle was involved in the “lower end of the crack market”, operating in Marylebone and Dalston. He was last seen alive last Tuesday.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Watts, from the Specialist Crime Directorate who is leading the enquiry, said: “Marvin has obviously been murdered in the most violent circumstances and in my view by more than one person.
“The people who we are looking for are extremely violent and at large within the community. We need to find them as quickly as possible – someone must know what happened and if anyone is worried about coming forward I assure them we will protect their anonymity.
“We are appealing to the public to help trace Marvin’s movements after he was last seen last Tuesday.” Police say that because the canal flows downhill towards the east, it is likely the body was dumped slightly west of where it was recovered; their search stretches as far west as Lisson Grove.
