Bouncer cleared of murder

A BOUNCER at Stringfellow’s Covent Garden dance club has been cleared of murdering a reveller on a stag night out.

But an Old Bailey jury was unable to agree on a verdict to a lesser charge of manslaughter faced by former heavyweight boxer Marcus Marriott and he will be retried.
The court heard how drunken businessman George MacDonald, 34, a father of two from Southam, Warwickshire, was ejected from the basement club in Upper St Martin’s Lane after a claim that he groped a dancer.
Marriott, 33, from Chingford, east London, one of 12 door supervisors on duty, admitted that on the pavement in Long Acre he punched 21- stone Mr MacDonald on the side of the head.
The blow sent Mr MacDonald, who had spent £500 at Stringfellow’s, crashing to the ground.
He died from a skull fracture on October 8 last year. Marriott said he was acting in self defence because he feared the victim might be about to attack him.
