Walk On Water

EVEN if you’re not particularly political, this thriller will grab you and make you pay attention.
The winner of the Audience Award at the Washington Jewish Film Festival, it was also the largest-grossing Israeli picture ever released to the North American box office charts. Directed by Eytan Fox, it tells the story of Eyal, an Israeli secret service hit man (played perfectly by Lior Ashkenazi), who must tail a pair of German siblings.

Sent by his boss on this assignment shortly after the suicide of his wife, Eyal is hardened to what he dislikes: Arabs, homosexuals, and liberals.
Spending time with Axel and Pia Himmelman (Knut Berger and Caroline Peters) exposes Eyal to all of that and more, almost force-feeding him their opinions.
Ultimately he begins to question why he should care about getting the siblings’ Nazi grandfather who may or may not be alive or even within striking distance.
Unusually beautiful, well-crafted and tight, this turns out to be an exciting and surprisingly moderate look at guilt, revenge, love and ultimately understanding.
Refreshing, entertaining and thoughtful.
Odeon Covent Garden, Swiss Cottage, Screen-On-The-Hill.
