Upstream Swimming
Based on a true story, Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis, two of Australia’s most powerful actors, team up in this vivid, disturbing dysfunctional family/sport drama directed by Russell Mulcahy. Two talented sons, Tony and John Fingleton, must battle their abusive dad to find their own self-respect.

Kings and Queens
The tale of a divorced single mother and her erroneously asylum-committed ex-boyfriend suffers from being burdened with too much creativity, with a heap of rap music, mythology and more than enough flashbacks. Add a dying father and psychiatrist Catherine Deneuve and you have a wild ride by director/ writer Arnaud Desplechin.

Baadasssss!
American filmmaker Mario Van Peebles’s homage to his father’s groundbreaking 1971 indie film Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song – then notoriously X-rated – shows just how difficult it was for such a film to be made in the climate of the American 1970s. Peebles plays his own father in this fascinating biopic.
