Religious row over lunches
THE views of 25,000 Camden Muslims are worth less to the Town Hall than those of a single non-Muslim, a furious Bengali community leader has claimed after it emerged that halal meat was secretly removed from thousands of children’s school dinners.
Emails obtained by the New Journal show that halal meat was routinely served to Camden school children at more than 50 schools across the borough until last summer, even though it was branded non-halal.
But officials secretly ordered under-fire catering firm Scolarest to stop serving the religiously-blessed meat in July after a mother at Eleanor Palmer School discovered it and complained that halal slaughter was cruel to animals.
400 sign up against drugs
STOP the crack dealers!
This is the simple but stark message that under-siege residents and traders in Camden Town are sending to the Town Hall.

More than 400 people have signed a petition appealing for help and are due to meet with ward councillors on Friday.
They say that drug dealing on the corner of Bayham Street and Camden Road – a notorious haunt highlighted on numerous occasions by the New Journal – is spilling into residential streets.
Campaigners have revealed Greenland Road and Carol Street are hotspots that need most attention.
Just one candidate for controversial job
CAMDEN Council is to put forward just one applicant for the controversial new post of Children’s Director.
Heather Schroeder (pictured) – currently the Town Hall’s social services boss – is the only candidate who will face an interview for the job.
The process will anger school governors who say the job should have been advertised nationally to maximise their chances of finding a suitable candidate who has expertise in both social services and education.
Gay couple trapped in their home by gang of teen thugs

A GAY couple who have suffered brutal homophobic violence at the hands of a teenage gang on the doorstep of their Camden Town home made an emotional appeal for help yesterday (Wednesday).
