Town hall salute to ring champ

Martin ‘Too Much’ Power

A BOXER from Kentish Town was crowned British bantamweight champion on Friday – and plans are under way to celebrate his success at the Town Hall.
Martin ‘Too Much’ Power, 25, pictured right, beat Huddersfield’s Dale Robinson on points in the title fight at Elephant and Castle Leisure Centre. It is the 17th consecutive win for Power, who lives in Farrier Street, since he turned pro four years ago.
It was an especially sweet victory for Power, as one of his few defeats was to Robinson in an amateur encounter in December 1997.
Power, who grew up in Castlehaven Road and attended Acland Burghley School, made his name as an amateur at St Pancras Boys Club. Since his win, offers for fights have started coming in. He plans to start defending his title in September.
A Camden Council press official said: “The mayor will be writing to Martin Power to congratulate him and to look at how his success can be celebrated.”
