| The
animal house |

Planning a trip to London Zoo to see the animals? Take some
time out to look at the brilliant architecture too, writes
Dan Carrier
THEY need care and attention and people flock to London
Zoo to see them: but they are not furry creatures and they
are not attracting animal lovers.
Instead, the Zoological Society of London, based in Regent’s
Park, is a haven for architectural fanciers.
With two Grade I and eight Grade II listed buildings on site,
visitors are not just coming to see the monkeys and lions,
they are coming to see fine examples of British architecture.

Charlie – a Highbury hero |
Football was a different game in
the old days. Arsenal superstar and FA Cup winner Charlie
George reveals all in his autobiography. By Richard Osley
Charlie George – My Story
by Charlie George
Century, £16.99
IT may seem alien to anyone who began watching football when
Sky TV told them to, but the darling of Highbury’s North
Bank hasn’t always been French. He hasn’t always
earned tens of thousands of pounds each week for scoring goals,
was never asked to sell cars simply by uttering the words
‘va-va voom’. |

| Easy
cheesy with these very tasty asparagus tips |
Here
are two of my favourite ways to cook perfect asparagus, says
Clare Latimer
I have something in common with asparagus – neither
of us like cold nights. Although we are now well into the
asparagus season, the crop is not quite at its best yet for
quantity due to the weather but quality is fine. |

| Fans
need to fight the power of football Plc |
| Without the support of the
fans, Malcolm Glazer’s buy out of Manchester United
faces a rocky ride, writes academic Jonathan Michie
Is football returning to the old days, when clubs were the
play-things of wealthy businessmen? With Roman Abramovich
owning Chelsea and Malcolm Glazer having Manchester United,
will that be the way for other clubs? |
