New bid for pub by canal

ONE of Britain’s best-known breweries has stepped up its bid to build a canalside pub in Camden Town.
Cask ale specialist Samuel Smith has earmarked a disused plot in Kentish Town Road – close to a bridge over the canal – for a new bar, provisionally known as The Lock Gates.
Planning approval for a pub on the land was granted in 2000 but the project was never started.
The brewery now needs Camden Council’s planning department to extend the permission if building is to go ahead.
Planning officials are expected to take a decision on the scheme without the application being discussed by a panel of elected councillors.
Any objectors have been told to make their case to the council as soon as possible.
