Greens popular out on the street

CNJ follows the parties as they try and convince you they are worth your vote in the election

THE Green Party launched their ‘Vote for Peace’ campaign next to the statue under the bronze statue of Gandhi in Tavistock Square in Bloomsbury on Thursday, writes Tom Foot.
Sian Berry candidate for Hampstead and Highgate said: “It’s such an inspiring place and since ‘a vote for peace’ is one of our main campaign slogans I thought Gandhi’s statue would be the perfect place to kick-start our campaign.
“An important factor in our favour is that we have always been against the war in Iraq – unlike the Liberal Democrats.”
Adrian Oliver, candidate for Holborn and St Pancras, added: “Our strength comes from sticking to our principles. We are the only remaining radical alternative to Labour. There has been tremendous bloodshed and unimaginable human suffering and a colossal loss of resources. Now we’re being told that there isn’t enough money to run our services.”
Mr Oliver and Ms Berry were out canvassing in Kentish Town on Tuesday night – even the most optimistic Green activist would have been surprised by the response.
Over a quarter of the people who answered their doors during two hours canvassing said they would definitely vote Green.
