Bullies’ new track has started walking

Audio Bullies – Baby Shot Me Down

NANCY Sinatra, Frank’s little Princess, has had some high times – singing with pop on Something Stupid left a lump in the throat, while These Boots Were Made For Walking was a sure fire hit.
But her irritating tune Bang Bang, lifted by Tarantino in the Kill Bill film(s), wasn’t one of the career peaks.
Full marks to the Audio Bullies (pictured), then, for making this senseless rubbish sound surprisingly good with one of the best dance acetates current doing the rounds.
The Bullies can themselves sound so ordinary and their up-and-down past work has often flattered to deceive. People compare them to The Streets but that’s nonsense.
This time around, however, they are firing on all cylinders.
The Nancy vocal gets sliced up, blended and spat out onto a tough bedrock of four-four disco beats.
Sure, it’s a familiar formula, and there is nothing new in the production.
But Baby Shot Me Down has an icy shiver to it which has seen house-head club DJs falling over themselves to bag a copy.
Of course, the future of any dance cut of this nature is unpredictable. Maybe it will make it in Ibiza but more likely it will be wrecked as a mobile ringtone and dumped in the second hand vinyl crates by the end of the year. If so, it really is time for the Bullies to enjoy their moment in the sunshine.
Sinatra, meanwhile, is booked for a salvo at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Sunday May 1.
