The Amityville Horror (15)
Another take on the hit horror film of the 1970s, this version heads back to the original book to recreate the terror generated by a house (pictured above) haunted by a murderer. Based on a true story, this is a taut, leap-in-your-seat date movie that is extremely unsuitable for young children. For adults, however, there are jokes and jumps galore – and the gym-honed torso of star Ryan Reynolds.

New Town Original (15)
This low-budget drama is little more than a long soap opera episode. But director/writer Jason Ford and his producers show determination at getting the job done. With music provided by two window washers (who are, apparently, still washing windows), this does find a new star in Elliot Jordan as a lean young man at odds with suburban life.

Wild Side (18)
What happens when a transsexual ‘lady of the night’ returns from the big city to her rural home? Writer and director Sébastien Lifshitz tackles the touching subject of dying parents, memories of being another gender as a child and lost loves with subtlety and long patience.
