MOVIES by JO BERRY
Also showing

Downfall (15)
A tense, fascinating film from German director Oliver Hirschbiegel based on Joachim Fest’s acclaimed book ‘Inside Hitler’s Bunker’. Bruno Ganz mesmeries as the Fuhrer in this depiction of the final 12 days of his life as Berlin falls to the Russians, and his senior ministers proclaim undying loyalty while working out where the nearest escape route is. A claustrophobic, unique movie.

The Keys To The House (PG)
An interesting, sensitive drama about family, The Keys To The House focuses on the relationship between father Kim Rossi Stuart and the disabled teenage son he is only now getting to know, years after he abandoned the boy following his mother’s death in childbirth. The always wonderful Charlotte Rampling co-stars as another parent dealing with disability – that of her daughter – at the same clinic.

The Rage In Placid Lake (15)
Sadly, this isn’t a sequel to the hilariously duff horror movie Lake Placid. Instead, it’s an Australian comedy that doesn’t often hit the mark, about a young man named Placid who tries to fit in in the face of bullying at his school. Miranda Richardson and Garry McDonald play his hippyish parents, Rose Byrne gets the thankless task of playing the girl Placid has a crush on, and it all adds up to a weak fillm that, like Placid, wishes it was something better.
