Dream role for schoolboy actor

Luke to star alongside So Solid’s Asher D

A SCHOOLBOY whose acting career stretched to not more than a supporting role in his primary school’s nativity play has landed a dream role in a blockbuster film about teenage gun culture.
Luke Fraser, 14, who lives in Camden Gardens, Camden Town and goes to St Aloysius school in Highgate, staved off over a thousand others at an audition and will star alongside ex-So Solid Crew member Ashley Walters, who pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded firearm in 2001. The film, called Bullet Boy, tells the story of two brothers growing up in one of London’s most volatile neighbourhoods, where a minor street clash escalates into a cycle of violence that has tragic repercussions.
But unlike your average child star, Luke’s mum Sally was none too pleased about him gracing the silver screen – until she read the script.
He said: “My mum was worried because she thought the film was all guns and stuff. But it’s not like I go around shooting people, so in the end my mum was alright with it. The film is saying don’t get involved, don’t play with guns because it’s wrong and people get hurt. Don’t bully people because in the end you hurt your friends, so just be friends with them and keep yourself safe.”
And it was his refreshing innocence that landed him the role in the first place.
He added: “At the audition they made me pretend I had just lost a football game. I was so surprised when they kept calling me back because I had never done any acting before.”
With filming finishing, Luke has had to get used to life back in the real world – revising for his GCSEs. But he wants to keep up his new found vocation as best he can. His favourite subjects include music and drama – he writes his own music, and since his film success, he has lent his talents to two school plays.
