£20,000 scam uncovered in sting
A CORONER is due to resume a long-awaited inquest into the
death of a man shot dead outside a nightclub on Tuesday.
Dad-of-two Jason Fearon, 26, was gunned down outside the popular
Turnmills nightspot in Farringdon Road, Clerkenwell, on Easter
Monday 2003.
Police have yet to bring murder charges against any suspects.
But two years on, St Pancras Coroner Dr Andrew Reid is ready to
throw open the case to a full inquest
Mr Fearons relatives are set to hear full details, including
witness statements and police records, for the first time.
They are also likely to learn clearer details about how police
reacted to an anonymous tip-off that a gun attack was planned.
Scotland Yard said the alert was not passed onto the right department.
Trouble flared inside the club which was hosting an appearance
by Lisa Maffia, hit garage singer with the crossover group So
Solid Crew, and DJ Spoony from Radio Ones Dreem Team.
A pitch battle later spilled out onto the streets where a car
chase ended in tragedy when Mr Fearon, from east London, was found
slumped in a car passenger seat, dead from gunshot wounds.
At the time, Detective Chief Inspector Richard Langley, from the
Serious Crime Directorate, told the New Journal: I do not
believe Jason was the intended victim and we have offered police
protection to the person who we believe was.
