THE CROW By DAN CARRIER & RICHARD OSLEY
At least entertaining Spurs are heading in the right direction

NEWCASTLE United may have ended Spurs’ chances of silverware, but there are some facts that provide a silver lining. Their keeper was man of the match and we were cheated out of a clear goal and a clear penalty. To cap it all, I still don’t really feel comfortable watching Lee Bowyer – hand ball culprit on two occasions – appear on a football pitch.
But losing gloriously is not all bad. Let me explain. If this had been the Gooners in this situation – which it won’t ever be, because they are too lucky – we’d never hear the end of it. Would they have gone to St James’s Park and left with their heads held high? Some how I doubt it. They’d have kicked-off big time, and with players like Shearer, Bowyer and Dyer on the opposing side it would have been less of a football game and more of a boxing match.
But that’s the difference between us and them. We know we’re moving in the right direction. While those lot are hoping to salvage something out of a season that they’d bragged would bring bountiful rewards, we have faith that our Dutch master is scheming to bring us success.
And although we are out of the cup, we entertained, we attacked, and even if we lacked that slice of good fortune, we know we’re heading in the right direction.

RIVAL Catherine Etoe has been out of the office this week, allowing us all some peace and quiet. The downside, however, was we missed hearing what she would say about the collapse of Tottenham’s season. The defeat to Newcastle in the FA Cup means the only silver in sight at White Hart Lane this season will be the Prodigy-style tufts of hair which desperately try to cover Pumpkinhead’s huge bonce.
Speaking of Martin Jol – did you see him after the match? Clearly unimpressed, he had lips like a cat’s backside.
It was as if he really had convinced himself that Tottenham would win the FA Cup.
Either that or someone had just told him the Ajax job has been given to somebody else, and that he hasn’t even be linked to an escape route to Manchester City.
Thing is, Marty, Tottenham are now neither a league team nor a cup team. They are a nothing team. What is the point of Tottenham? What is the point? They just trundle along, doing nothing. Meanwhile, Arsenal motored into the semi-finals. Freddie Ljungberg netted the winner.
When the Swede heads down to Cardiff, he usually scores and Arsenal usually win.
It could be a merry month of May after all.
