Murder sparks call for blitz on crime

Cllr Andrew Mennear: ‘concerned’

POLICE have been warned that they need to make Swiss Cottage a priority, following the murder of a pub-goer in Finchley Road.
Tory councillor Andrew Mennear told last Wednesday’s full council meeting: “I am concerned about the decline of peace and quiet in Finchley Road, up from Swiss Cottage.
“There was yet another murder there not so long ago after people tumbled out of the Walkabout Bar.”
Cllr Mennear was referring to the death of Bozidar Misic, 28, following a street attack last month.
Murder squad detectives have yet to bring charges against anyone.
Cllr Mennear told Wednesday’s meeting: “I would ask for a special emphasis on that area when 24-hour drinking is brought in, which a number of us are still very concerned about.”
Labour’s community safety supremo Councillor Anna Stewart said the Swiss Cottage ward would be given extra help.
She said: “Swiss Cottage has been designated as a Safer Neighbourhoods ward, which will bring the added resource of one sergeant, two police constables and three police community support officers stationed there.
“I’m not saying it will solve all the problems but it will make some inroads.”
