Greens pick Dobbo challenger

Greens’ Adrian Oliver

THE Greens have named their man to face Labour MP Frank Dobson in Holborn and St Pancras constituency.
Adrian Oliver, 38, who caused a stir in the 2002 council elections by almost becoming the first Green councillor in Camden, was confirmed as the party’s general election candidate on Friday.
A well-known face in Camden, Mr Oliver has been part of Green Party campaigns to save post offices, shops and small businesses in recent years. His party is now scrutinising redevelopment plans for King’s Cross.
Mr Oliver said voters in Holborn and St Pancras had significant concerns. He added: “The cost of living is too high, pensions and benefits for the elderly and vulnerable are inadequate, many services are being cut back and noise pollution and traffic congestion are prolific.”
The Green Party’s emphasis on sustainability covered fairness, justice, respect and compassion, Mr Oliver said.
He added: “If a policy is not just, it can never be sustainable and will inevitably be changed. The only question is when.”
