Also showing

First Daughter (PG)
First, there was Chasing Liberty, in which Mandy Moore was the US President’s daughter trying to have a romance – now here’s the spookily similar First Daughter with former Dawson’s Creek star Katie Holmes as the daughter of US President Michael Keaton who wants to head off to college to have a normal life but instead gets into trouble when a photo of her campus exploits gets splashed across the tabloids. Missable stuff.

Laura’s Star (U)
Sweet German animation – based on a series of popular children’s books – about a little girl who gets a new magical friend in the form of a star that can bring toys to life. Little girls may be enchanted, but boys and any tots who have seen slicker animated movies like Finding Nemo or Toy Story are less likely to be impressed.

The Magic Roundabout (U)
That classic teatime kids show from the 1960s and 1970s gets a 21st-century update with this cute movie-length version aimed at toddlers too cool for Teletubbies and Tweenies.
Robbie Williams is terrific as the voice of Dougal, while Bill Nighy (as hippy Dylan), Ian McKellen (as Zebedee), Jim Broadbent (Brian the snail), Joanna Lumley (as singing cow Ermintrude) and Tom Baker (as the evil Zeebad) are all great – only Kylie Minogue as Florence lets the side down.

Son Of The Mask
Jim Carrey – star, of course, of the original The Mask movie – doesn’t return for this sequel. Instead, it’s Jamie Kennedy who comes into contact with the mask that causes general craziness, currently in the possession of a baby.
Alan Cumming and Bob Hoskins are among the talent who presumably turned up just for their pay cheques. Don’t waste your hard earned cash on this disappointment.

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (U)
Already a favourite among children (and adults) who watch the Nickelodeon cartoon, loveable seasponge Spongebob (who lives in a pineapple under the sea in case you didn’t know) now gets his own movie.
Pal Patrick (the dumber-than-dumb starfish) is along for the ride when Spongebob has to rescue King Neptune’s crown in this cute adventure that features a hilarious cameo from David Hasselhoff which is worth the ticket price alone.
