Fall victims’ plea to samaritans

Recovering: Ida Hollis, right, and Irene Mann

THREE good samaritans who came to the aid of an elderly woman who fell in the street are being sought by the victim so she can say a proper thank-you for their help.
Ida Hollis, who celebrated her 86th birthday two weeks ago, was returning from her weekly visit to the hairdressers, helped by neighbour Irene Mann, 77, when she fell and gashed her leg on a temporary crossing in Mansfield Road, Gospel Oak, taking Mrs Mann down with her.
According to Mrs Hollis, from Highgate, three smartly-dressed “30-something” men rushed to their aid and waited with them for an ambulance. One even offered to pay for a taxi to take Mrs Hollis to hospital but a passing ambulance stopped for the women, who were taken to the Royal Free in Hampstead
Mrs Hollis, who is now recovering at home, said: “They were so kind to us. I don’t know where they came from but we would probably have caused a major accident if they hadn’t helped us.”
Mrs Mann, who injured her back in the fall, said: “We couldn’t have got nicer people to look after us. The paramedics and all the staff at the hospital were absolutely brilliant.” Mrs Hollis added: “You hear some horrible things these days so it’s nice to know there are still nice people out there.”
